Ha Ha Tonka State Park Surprise Proposal | Missouri Proposal Photographer

I'm coming at you with some main character energy because wow. This feels like it is straight out of a movie!

When Pearson first reached out about proposing to his girlfriend, Gracie, at Ha Ha Tonka State Park, I knew it was going to be a good one. What I didn't know was just how many things would try to go wrong before everything came together perfectly. But movies have plot twists, right? Yeah well, so do proposals.

Gracie and her best friend, Kennedy, had planned a girls trip to the Lake of the Ozarks from Iowa. They live several hours away, so this wasn't exactly a quick weekend getaway. The girls headed down the day before while Pearson stayed behind, planning to secretly drive down the next morning and surprise her.

Then life happened.

The morning Pearson was supposed to leave, his air conditioner quit working. With dogs at home and summer temps , he seriously considered canceling the proposal altogether and trying again another time. I had like 10 missed calls on my phone from this man at 7am. lol I still feel so bad that I missed them!!

As he was trying to call me to cancel - he ended up running into a friend. He told him about his plans and how he also planned to cancel because of XYZ.

But his friend reminded him of something simple-

He loves Gracie and the most perfect things often come with imperfections.

I knew this conversation meant a lot to Pearson because he mentioned it a few different times throughout the night.

I love this, because you never know when you are going to end up playing a role in someones movie.

( I swear - no pun intended. It just keeps working out, haha.)

Pearson wasn't familiar with Ha Ha Tonka State Park, so during our consultation I shared a Google Earth screen recording to help him get a lay of the land.

One of the biggest advantages of hiring a local Missouri proposal photographer is having someone who knows the area. I was able to walk him through several possible locations and give him a better idea of what each spot looked like before he ever arrived.

Originally, he wasn't sure where he wanted to propose.

After talking through the options, he decided to go with my suggestion- the water tower overlook.

That decision ended up saving the day because an amphitheater concert was taking place that evening and the castle ruins area was completely shut down. This was a surprise to us and had Pearson planned his proposal there, things would have looked very different lol.

Instead, everything fell into place.

Well... mostly.

The concert also created some parking challenges, but after explaining what we had going on, one of the security staff members happily agreed to help us pull it off. Sometimes it really does take a village and human-kind can be pretty great.

By the time Gracie arrived, Pearson had arranged more than 200 battery-operated candles waiting for her.

I'll never forget watching her walk up those beautiful wooden steps.

She heard him laugh before she saw him... that was precious. I watched her just welp into smiles and tears all at the same time.

Those are the moments that can't be recreated. The anticipation, the nerves, the excitement, and then the realization that this is a memory you'll carry for the rest of your life.

Standing there watching it unfold, I felt incredibly honored to document it.

Of course, Gracie said yes.

Afterward, we spent the rest of the evening exploring Ha Ha Tonka State Park and creating engagement photos under some of the prettiest cotton candy skies I've seen all year.

It felt like something out of a storybook.

Or a movie. ;)

Days like this remind me how beautiful life can be, and I'll never take for granted that I get the opportunity to document these moments for couples across Missouri.
