The beloved wedding "shoe game": a reception favorite.
I’ve been photographing weddings for 10 years, and one thing that never goes out of style? The shoe game!
I’ve seen it played at elegant black-tie weddings, intimate backyard ceremonies, and everything in between. No matter the size or style of your wedding, the shoe game is always a crowd favorite at the reception!
I highly recommend brainstorming some fun, unique questions that reflect your relationship, but if you need a little inspiration, I’ve got you covered with a list of go-to questions!
My biggest advice? Keep it lighthearted, engaging, and not too long—leave your guests laughing and wanting more, not checking their watches! 😉
How to Play the Shoe Game at Your Wedding
Here’s how you can play it and keep the mood light:
Get Ready
- Sit back-to-back with your partner. Each of you will need to hold one of your own shoes and one of your partner's shoes. Make sure your guests can see the shoes clearly!
Ask Questions
- A host or MC (could be a friend or family member!) will ask a series of questions. These can range from lighthearted to more personal. For example:
- “Who’s the better cook?”
- “Who’s more likely to forget an anniversary?”
- “Who made the first move?”
Answer the Questions
- For each question, raise the shoe that best represents the answer! If you think you’re the better cook, raise your shoe. If you think your partner is the forgetful one, raise their shoe. It’s fun to see if you both have the same answers, and even more fun when you don’t!
Keep It Fun
- The goal is laughter! Don’t be afraid to get silly or cheeky with your responses. The more relaxed you are, the more fun your guests will have watching.
The shoe game is a simple way to break the ice and add a little playful energy to your reception. Plus, it’ll be a moment you and your guests will never forget!
